History
Workplace was founded by Miles Thurlow and Paul Moss in 2002 as an artist-led group. In 2005 they opened Workplace Gallery in Gateshead town centre to commercially represent a group of artists based in the region and help them access the international art world.
In 2017, after over a decade of developing an international reputation, Workplace set up Workplace Foundation to support and exhibit emerging and under-represented artists - with a commitment to cutting through the excluding barriers that artists still face working on the margins of the art world and outside of London in England.
Workplace Foundation is a registered charity and is part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of Organisations.
In 2021 Workplace Foundation moved to 12 Blandford Square, an 1800 sq ft ground floor accessible gallery space in Newcastle city centre.
Workplace Gallery continues to grow as a commercial gallery and is based in London. Workplace Foundation and Workplace Gallery are separate organisations with their own governance and finance structures.
