Been and gone was commissioned as part of the exhibition Shake before using, which was an exhibition of work that was produced specifically for the gallery and would be naturally destroyed during the de-installation process.
The gallery was a relatively new building, built on the site of the city’s former bus station. The work involved mapping and drawing by hand to full scale, the architectural elevations of the old bus station onto the surface of the building that now stood in it’s place, using dust gathered from the basement of the site.
