Ben Woodard’s CHRONOMANIACS - Timing in Horror and Horror in Time.: WORKPLACE GATESHEAD. FREE EVENT Hosted by FTSC (Future Show Trauma Clinic)

WORKPLACE GATESHEAD 14 September 2017

FSTC is thrilled to announce Event 3

Ben Woodard’s Chronomaniacs. Timing in Horror and Horror in Time.

Please join us for an evening of talk and discussion with Ben Woodard, author of ‘Slime Dynamics’ and ‘On An Ungrounded Earth’

Join us as we uncover how time is metabolised through film and woven into its very fabric through jump scares, suspense and atmospheric construction

Does horror leak from the screen into reality, from celluloid into the cultural time it sprang from? Does it draw from its ecology or create it?

Ben Woodard is currently a post-doc researcher at Leuphana University in Luneburg, Germany.

He is the author of two books. Slime Dynamics: Generation, Mutation and the Creep of Life (Zer0) and On an Ungrounded Earth: Towards a New Geophilosophy (Punctum)

On his philosophy blog 'naught thought' Woodard writes about the relation between non-eliminative naturalism (Schelling, Iain Grant), Idealism (Schelling, Bradley), and Pragmatism (Peirce, James, etc). He is particularly interested in constructing a representation-preserving form of externalism to properly integrate these varies forms of philosophy and articulate their interdependence across the analytic-continental divide.

More specifically, Woodard is interested in how pre-existing constraints of asymmetrically determine (naturalism) the behavior of ideas whose proper morphology is tracked and mapped (idealism) in order to determine the practical function and use of the knowledge of such constraints and the apparent autonomy of the formal (pragmatism).
