Workplace Foundation, Gateshead
Workplace Foundation is delighted to present a solo exhibition of new and existing works by Manchester based artist Claire Dorsett.
‘Small things become big and big things small - both in terms of size and feeling’
Notes, objects and snippets from day-to-day life are reduced by Claire Dorsett to line, colour and shape. Extreme close-up and extra-extra-large, the isolated images of Dorsett’s paintings assume a Janus - faced position, oscillating between joyous, childlike simplicity and menacing, totemic power.
An exhibition catalogue with an essay by the influential Scottish sculptor, performance artist, filmmaker and painter Bruce McLean will be available during the exhibition.
Claire Dorsett (born 1985, UK) graduated from her BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at The University of Brighton in 2007 and from MFA Painting at The Slade School of Fine Art in 2010. Since then she has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Manchester.
