Tao Foam
GRIMM is pleased to announce ‘Tao Foam’, the first solo exhibition by Mick Peter in The Netherlands. Previously his work has been included in a group show at the gallery curated by Tom Morton.
Peter will exhibit a large-scale room environment along- side new sculptures and works op paper. Following The Nose (2009-2010) his new environment, The Grey Cloth, comprises sculptural wall reliefs and coloured rubber cast of ‘chindi’ rugs strewn across the floor.
Peter’s new work asserts the instability of meaning and the rhetorical potential of objects and images. His drawings are based on a repertoire of images derived from commercial art and literature. By combining drawings in different idioms and then redrawing them, he creates works that ‘contain’ multiple images. For ‘Tao Foam’ he will exhibit a series of six new drawings inspired by Further Conclusions Against an Italian Version (BAT) by the band Socrates that practiçes music.
In his sculptures Peter continues this doubling by employing its potential for ‘sleight of hand’. Peter evokes an absurdist world in which the apparent ‘constructedness’ of his sculptures means that things are never quite what they seem.
Mick Peter lives and works in Glasgow. His work has been included in the British Art Show 7 (2011, The Hayward Gallery, London and touring) and exhibited at Gallery Crevecoeur (2011, Paris) and was selected for the Prix Ricard, Paris (2010).
